In preparation for the first day of school, parents are encouraged to access the ‘School Bus City’ website: Find Your Bus Stop for information about bus stops, school bus eligibility and late bus updates.
As a gentle reminder, during the first two weeks of school, students should arrive at their bus stop 10 minutes early. After this, students are asked to arrive 5 minutes early as each bus route develops its regular routine and service times. Please expect delays the first few weeks of school while drivers familiarize themselves with the routes.
In order to ensure the safety of all our students, Parents/Guardians are asked to carefully review the following information related to our bus procedures & routines:
- On the first day of school, all students who ride the bus home from school will be given colour coded bus tags that will be labelled with the p.m. bus number (students in Kindergarten to Grade 2 also have an additional yellow bus tag). In the interests of safety, these tags must remain on student backpacks to assist us in ensuring that students are boarding the correct bus each day.
- If your child qualifies for bussing but will not be riding the bus home from school each day, please notify the classroom teacher in writing as soon as possible so that we can ensure that our dismissal information remains accurate.
- Additionally, if your child regularly takes the bus home from school, please inform the classroom teacher in writing of any change in these arrangements. A student who regularly rides the bus home from school will be placed on the bus unless the classroom teacher has received a note from the parent specifying otherwise.
- A reminder that due to safety reasons, students must ride their assigned bus home and they are not permitted to take an alternate bus home with a friend.
- Students riding the bus are expected to adhere to all safety rules of the driver when riding the bus home. These expectations include: remaining seated for the duration of the bus ride, refrain from eating on the bus, refrain from throwing items out the window of the bus, limit noise where possible, treat others with respect and behave in a manner that is consistent with the expectations in place at our school. Students who do not comply with these expectations, will have progressive disciplinary action applied including being excluded from riding the bus where necessary. Parents are kindly asked to review these safety expectations with their children.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation in helping us ensure the safety of all our students. At OLHC, safety and well-being remains our top priority!
